FACT Frauen aktiv contra Tabak e.V.
The Associaton of Women against Tobacco, Germany (FACT Frauen aktiv contra Tabak e.V. www.fact-antitabak.de) issued a press release in the frame of a collaborative project with the Midwifery Association of lower Saxony and funded by the German Health Ministry. It drew attention to the fact that the work of the family midwives in the field of smoking cessation would be extremely hampered through an ineffective legislative framework and claimed the effective and immediate implementation of the FCTC.
The project concerns the development of a "smoke free" curriculum for family midwives who accompany low socio economic pregnant women until one year after birth of the child. You can find more info on the project at http://www.gesundheit-nds.de/CMS/index.php/arbeitsschwerpunkte/168-weniger-ist-mehr
World Lung Foundation (WLF)
On World No Tobacco Day, WLF took action across the globe,
launching a new web resource and kicking off mass media campaigns
in eight countries. The cigarette pack warning resource empowers
governments to fulfill health treaty obligations and provides
access to 47 effective, license-free images from 8 countries.
Government health officials can access license-free images, and can
review data about each image, including the country of origin and
research available on effectiveness. These hard-hitting images
graphically depict the negative consequences of smoking,
encouraging smokers to quit.
Mass media campaigns with graphic depuiction of health harms were
launched in eight countries linked to WNTD: Albania, Bangladesh,
Bulgaria, India, Mauritius, Philippines, Russia (4 sub national),
and Ukraine. In doing so, WLF joined national and
international organizations in a collective effort against the
terrible human cost of tobacco use. Read more at:
